The Cultural Center of Panormos Tinos Giannoulis Halepas, in collaboration with the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze (Florence Academy of Fine Arts) and Professor Alessandra Porfidia, organize marble sculpture lessons for students, in the tinian marble sculptors workshops.
The workshops run from Monday 11th to Saturday 16th of September and involve six students who want to work on tinian marble and sculpt beautiful creations. Our workshop, once again, takes part in this wonderful collaboration and hosts two Academy students, helping them get to know the way marble works. Classes started on September 11th, when Ms. Porfidia and students visited our lab. The marble sculptor Ioannis Hondrogiannis, after touring them in our area, made a brief introduction to marble sculpture and talked about the marble sculpture and the way a sculpture is transported, from clay to plaster, and then to marble. Then the students settled on the rest of the workshops and began creating their own marble sculptures.
The closing ceremony will take place on Sunday, September 17, at the Pyrgos Tinos Museum of Marble Crafts, where students will present their works in an elegant marble sculpture exhibition. We are very pleased to be a part of this event, which demonstrates the marble sculpture craftsmanship and cultural tradition of our country.
