Tinian Marble Sculpture is a tradition that exists for at least three centuries. The island’s Exo Meria area, which is rich in material, has raised many quarriers, craftsmen, artists, marble sculptors and sculptors, creating an enormous artistic tradition based on marble, which was protected with the registration of Tinian Marble Craftsmanship and Marble Sculpture in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity Catalog.

This is a very special year for Tinos and especially for Exo Meria and Pyrgos areas, as it’s been 80 years since the death of the leading Greek marble sculptor, Giannoulis Halepas. This event has been the cause to mark 2018 as Halepas Year, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture. The Cultural Center of Panormos Tinos, is an entity that promotes the cultural heritage and artistic tradition of our country, honoring Giannoulis Halepas by organizing a series of cultural events, culminating with the Tinian Marble Sculptors Exhibition.

Our marble workshop, and the artists Antonis Hondrogiannis and Ioannis Hondrogiannis, respond to the call of the Panormos Tinos Cultural Center, by honoring Giannoulis Halepas and participating in the Tinian Marble Sculptors Exhibition with them. We thank the Panormos Tinos Cultural Center for this initiative and organization and we hope it will continue promoting the culture we inherited from our ancestors.

The Tinian Marble Sculptors Exhibition will run from August 4th to 30th, and the official opening will be on Wednesday, August 8 2018 at 8:30 pm.

When it ends, it will be accommodated in 4 Municipalities, in the capital and in the region. Specifically, it will be transferred to Ermoupoli Syros in September, October to Chios, November to Ioannina, and December to Daphne – Ymittos Municipality.
