The marble-sculpture classes were completed on Sunday September 17th, with an exhibition by students of the Florence Academy of Fine Arts, held at the Museum of Marble Crafts of the Piraeus Group Cultural Foundation, under the title “Fos, Diaperastikotita and Diafaneia in Tinos” (Light, Permeability and Transparency in Tinos).
The closing ceremony was attended by the Honorable Archbishop of Naxos, Tinos, Andros, Mykonos, P. Nikolaos Printezis, the President of the Panormos Cultural Center of Tinos “Giannoulis Halepas“, Mr. Manolis Sohos, marble sculptor teacher of the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence Mrs. Allesandra Porfidia with her students, the marble sculptors Antonis Hondrogiannis, Petros Marmarinos, Makis Trigonis, who participated in the event and hosted the students in their workshops, as well as the artistic audience of Tinos.
During the presentation of the artworks, the zeal student’s showed for marble was mentioned as long as the new opportunities for Tinos through this collaboration, which makes Tinian marble sculpture even more famous abroad and proves that it was worthy of being registered on the list of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, while the Archibishop helped communicate, because of his ability to speak the Italian language.
We thank the Panormos Tinos Cultural Center, the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, and especially Mrs. Porfidia for this excellent initiative, which enables foreign students to sculpt the marble and to discover the artistic tradition of our place. We hope that this event will take place every year, and we are bound to future collaboration to help students by sharing our know-how, experience and love of marble sculpture.
